Recent project experience

 

Construction - robotics / construction projects

​

• Embedded full-time in the project team of a global automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) OEM to deliver two robotic customer fulfilment centres for an Australian client.  Worked with the project executives and site teams in Victoria and NSW, Global Delivery Director and Group General Counsel to develop defensive strategies to overcome delivery challenges and to achieve completion.

General technology-construction integration

​

• Advising a tolling OEM on tenders for Roadside Tolling System, video tolling and tolling systems for various projects, including M4, Western Harbour Tunnel, Eastlink, and a Singapore road project.

​​

• Advising a healthcare imaging OEM on an equipment supply and building upgrade project at a hospital, and updating the standard construction procurement contract for use nationally.

​​

• Advising a national electrical parts distributor on a project to build new warehouses in Queensland and Victoria, and for the supply and installation of ASRS systems.

​​

• Commercial Manager for Australia, and Senior Legal Counsel for Asia Pacific and India, at a wind turbine OEM. Worked on many regional wind farm construction and O&M phase projects, including contract management, payment claims, developing and defending claims, and initiating, defending and settling disputes, and renegotiating contracts.

Selected project experience

 

Renewables

​

• Wind, solar, and storage development, tender, construction, execution, operations and decommission projects in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Poland and Vietnam.

​​

Execution / completion phase

​

• Advised a construction contractor on contractual and extra-contractual claims against its JV partner on a renewables project and working with project teams and senior counsel, and advised on strategy and communications to resolve a PPP dispute.

​​

• Advised an Australian public company on contracts for construction of tailings and processing facilities and dispute concerning delays and defects on construction in Mozambique.  Seconded to site to work directly with Capital Project Manager and Superintendent and project team to complete the project and resolve claims.

​​

• Advised a plant owner on a complex dispute with mine owners and the O&M contractor on a design, build, operate and maintain project.  Worked closely with the client’s executive team through commercial and contract negotiation, execution, establishing operations and contract management.

​​

Disputes

​​

• Advised an energy infrastructure owner on successful resolution of a services contract dispute with a retailer in the NSW Supreme Court.

​​

• A gas pipeline owner defending contractor claims for $1b in an arbitration supervised by the Supreme Court of Queensland.

​

• Security of payment adjudications, preparation of payment claims and schedules to comply with contract and law, and claims under the Consumer Law, calling on security and working with financiers.

​

• Acted for a key witness at a Royal Commission.

​​

• Advised a shopping centre owner defending claims brought under tenancy agreements following the failure and closure of a key attraction in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

​​

• Other experience in VCAT, FWC, County Court, Magistrates Court, and Federal Court.

​​

Publications

 

• 2025, author of a chapter on strategic contract administration in a legal / PM textbook on incorporation of technology into infrastructure projects.
